Whiplash commonly occurs in auto accidents and trucking accidents, but it can also occur in contact sports, such as football. Whiplash is caused when the head is violently thrust backward (hyperextension) and forward (hyperflexion), causing damage to the neck. Whiplash injuries may be exacerbated if the neck is turned to the side at the time the head is thrown forward and backward. Whiplash can cause injuries to intervertebral joints, discs and ligaments.

Whiplash can include a number of long-lasting and wide-ranging symptoms, including neck pain and stiffness, headaches, shoulder pain and stiffness, jaw pain, fatigue, dizziness, arm pain and weakness, vision problems, ringing in the ears, and back pain. In severe cases, whiplash can also lead to a number of whiplash associated symptoms and medical problems, including depression, anger, stress, drug dependency, post-traumatic stress disorder, and insomnia.

Whiplash frequently occurs in rear-end collisions. Following the auto accident, you may feel little or no pain at all. Sometimes symptoms of whiplash injuries do not develop until the days, weeks or months following the car accident. Pain associated with whiplash pain may also subside and return again at a later date.

If you are in a car accident, especially a rear-end collision, you should consider seeking medical attention even if you are experiencing little or no pain. A medical professional will conduct a complete medical examination, including orthopedic and chiropractic tests, x-rays, range of motion and muscle strength tests, as well as diagnostic ultrasound tests if necessary. Whiplash injuries are typically treated through various chiropractic techniques that are designed to rehabilitate the injured tissues in order to eliminate or minimize pain and to restore the desired function.

It is also important to consult with an experienced personal injury attorney if you have been in an auto accident. Arkansas auto accident attorneys are experienced personal injury attorneys who can help you protect you recover for your injuries or damages following an auto or trucking accident. If you or a loved one has suffered a whiplash, or other head injury as a result of an auto or trucking accident, contact a knowledgeable personal injury lawyer to discuss a possible personal injury lawsuit.

A traumatic brain injury is a sudden, non-congenital physical impairment brought by an external force that would result to a disruption of the brain’s normal functioning. Traumatic brain injuries range from a simple nudge to the head through a hard surface to a strong blow to the head that can damage the brain and the skull.

There are two types of traumatic brain injury. The first is the closed brain injury. There is no breakage on the skull or blood flowing out of the head. Though that is the case, it can be fatal if the accident is severe. The risk of a bleeding inside the head can be fatal in and must be dealt with immediately by the medical respondents. However, there are many mild cases of closed brain injury that are treatable in no time.

The second is the open brain injury. In this injury, there is a fracture in the damaged part of the skull caused by the impact. An open wound is present in this injury, which, if left unattended, can cause infection and contamination. The fractured part of the skull punctures the brain and its surrounding membranes, including the cerebrospinal fluid that keeps the brain in its place. The seriousness of this brain injury is treatable with surgery and ongoing rehabilitation.

Vehicle accidents contribute to these traumatic brain injuries. Given that the head is one of the exposed parts of the body when driving, it is also the part that is most vulnerable. Accidents such as these account to more than half of the brain injuries, with the people below the age of 75 suffering from it the most.

When vehicle accidents occur, the driver and the passengers cannot be able to stop the sudden forward momentum following a crash. Once the car crashes into another car or a concrete barrier on the road, the body moves forward, affecting the head. A familiar scene wherein the driver leans on the steering wheel unconscious can be seen minutes after the accident. If the accident is a severe one, expect that there is a bloody mess on the wreckage.

Experiencing brain injuries amounts to a costly sum that needs to be paid for the treatment and rehabilitation of the victims involved. If there is an angle of negligence on this type of accident, those involved are entitled for recovery in damages they sustained. When they want to file a claim for compensation for losses following an accident, a vehicle accident lawyer is the one to consult.
